Resurrection Rolls Updated Version

Resurrection Rolls
updated version

Get Everything Ready to Go Before You Begin

Bible, Pan, Regular Marshmallows, Crescent Rolls, Butter, Cinnamon, Sugar
  • Turn oven to 375°
  • Melt the butter 15-20 seconds
  • Mix cinnamon and sugar together in one bowl (equal parts, or a bit more sugar)
  • Set ingredients out on the table
  • Spray the cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray or a muffin pan

1. Take One Marshmallow and Begin Explaining the Resurrection Rolls Story
Explain: The marshmallow represents Jesus: Pure, white, sinless and perfect.
Unfortunately, even though Jesus was perfect, there were people who hated him. They wanted him dead. So they crucified him on a cross and left him to die there.
Bible verses: Luke 23:1-49

2. Roll the Marshmallow in the Melted Butter, then in the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
Explain: Jesus’s friends and family were very sad when Jesus died. They loved him. They wanted him to be alive. They were sad and confused.
But what Jesus’s disciples didn’t know was that Jesus didn’t JUST die. He also took all of our sins (the bad things we do) upon himself. He took our punishment so we wouldn’t have to!
See how the cinnamon looks dirty on Jesus’s body? The cinnamon represents our sin that Jesus took away when he died.
Bible verses: Romans 5:8, 1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5, 1 Corinthians 15:3

3. Carefully Wrap the Marshmallow in a Resurrection Crescent Roll, Carefully Sealing Every Seam.
Explain: Jesus’s friends and family didn’t know this, though. They thought he was just dead. So they buried him in a tomb and closed the door tight with a huge rock so no one could get in or out. This resurrection crescent roll represents Jesus’s tomb. Can you see the marshmallow in there? You can’t, because the tomb is sealed up tightly. Nothing can get in or out.
Bible verses: Luke 23:50-56

4. Place Resurrection Crescent Rolls on a cookie sheet or in a muffin pan; Invite Kids to Make Remaining Rolls.
Explain: After Jesus’s friends buried his body in the tomb, they left and went home for the night, because it was getting late.

5. Cook until Browned (see package directions). Remove from Oven. Continue Resurrection Rolls Story while Rolls are cooling.
Explain: Three days later, some of Jesus’s friends and family went back to his tomb. They wanted to put oil and spices on his body to make it smell better and not get too stinky. But, when they came to his tomb, they saw the most incredible thing! Do you know what it was?
(Cut the roll open – the marshmallow should be gone)
The tomb was empty! Jesus came back from the dead and he’s still alive today, watching over us and helping take care of us from Heaven!
Bible verses: Luke 24:1-12, Luke 22:69, John 14:3

Our God is Alive

Easter

I love Easter! The reason behind the celebration, knowing that I am as well as the whole world is Loved by a Wonderful God.  That Jesus died for my sins so that I may live forever with him. How awesome is that. Our tradition is to start Good Friday with Resurrection rolls and read the Easter story from the bible. Then we have a weekend full of family and friends. Egg hunts, Sunrise service, church and family meals all wrapped with the the love that God has for us. So here are some pictures from our God filled weekend.

on the hunt for the Big egg

Isaiah got a few other colors and Laura Mae did pretty good

Found the Big egg. A great way to end hunting eggs with the younger kids. Next year it's onto the big kid egg hunt at night with flashlights.

checking to see what numbers are on the eggs.

Depending on the number on the egg depends what activity you have to do for a prize or some pocket change..... say a bible verse, hug an Aunt, count to 100 and so on.....

Pulled out my Granny Farless, Ella Mae's china. My daddy bought this along with the china cabinet for his mom. She passed it onto me as a wedding gift in2001. This is probably only the 2nd or 3rd time I have eaten off them.

Resurrection Rolls

He is Risen!!!

For the last several years I wanted Easter to be a bit more than just egg hunts, bunnies, candy filled baskets. I wanted to make sure our kids knew the true meaning of Easter. That our Savior Jesus died for us ALL. I am a hands on kind of person and love visual ideas to get a point across. So I was thrilled a few years ago when I ran across Resurrection Rolls on a blog. They were a hit the first year we made them as a family and have become a family tradition for Good Friday morning. They are quick. easy and yummy. While the rolls are baking, we read the Easter story from the Bible starting with the last few days of Jesus' life. This is a great way to reinforce Jesus' death. When these rolls are finished baking they are empty just like Jesus' tomb!

You will need only 6 items:
crescent rolls
marshmallows
 sugar
cinnamon
 butter
Bible

Give each child one triangle shaped section of crescent roll.
                   This represents the tomb.

Each child takes one marshmallow.
This represents the body of Christ.

Dip the marshmallow in the butter and roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

This represents the oils and spices the body was anointed
                 with upon burial.

Lay the marshmallow on the dough and carefully wrap it around the marshmallow.
Make sure all seams are pinched together well. It will look like a ball.
(This is a REALLY important step! Otherwise the marshmallow will “ooze” out of the seams)

Bake according to package directions.

Isaiah carrying them to the oven

Cool.
Break open the tomb and the body of Christ is no longer there!!

Celebrate God’s love!

" But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8
